The last couple of weeks haven't been easy for the Lady Wolves basketball team, as they found themselves in unfamiliar territory. Coming into last night's match-up 5-7 and meeting up with an old foe, Mustang, was going to take some teamwork and concentration on the "little things."

Behind the solid defensive performance that the program hangs its hat on, the ladies stopped the Lady Broncos in a 57-53 victory that gave the women something to focus headed into a busy tournament week.

The ladies, led by senior Kaylee Nero's 27 points, controlled the game on the inside and had 15 of those in the first half. It was her presence and strength in the post, that left the bigger players from Mustang behind. Not only did the offense produce well, but the defense and rebounding in the second quarter limited the number of offensive tries the Mustang shooters could have.

After going into the locker room with a 3 point lead, the back and forth battle on the scoreboard was almost like watching a tennis match. In the fourth quarter, however, some key Mustang turnovers and two big 3-point baskets by junior Kashell Daughty distanced the Lady Wolves from their counterparts.

Senior Ahoneste Walker and freshman Jayda Holiman were key in some defensive turnovers which led to scores on the other end. The two players, along with teammate and junior Brooklyn Long each scored 7 points and icing free-throws down the stretch.

The ladies will travel west to play in the Newcastle Tournament starting on Thursday.
