On May 11th and 12th, the Santa Fe boys golf team traveled to Hillcrest CC (Bartlesville, OK) and played in the 6A State Championship. Bartlesville weather cooperated and the Perry Maxwell-design course demonstrated the best of the best in this 2-day event--which included three 18-hole rounds (36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday). Junior 1-bag Grady Thompson brought home the Individual State Champion trophy and the team finished 5th in the field of 12 teams.

Thompson posted rounds of 67 (-5) and 69 (-3) on the first day of play and capped off the tournament with a 71 (-1), finishing with a championship total of 207 (-9). Thompson led after each round and it all came down to a par-putt attempt on hole 18, to hold off a charging Bartlesville golfer who was just 1 stroke off the lead.

The Varsity Boys Golf team placed 5th behind State Champion Edmond North (870), 2025 State Champion Broken Arrow (897), Bartlesville (905), and Norman (907). Sophomore Hudson Kovash shot a tournament score 226 (+4) and placed 18th overall. Also finishing were: #39 Ben Pennington (Fr), #51 Ben Stroman (Sr) - 243 (+14), and #59 Jace Martin (Jr) 246.

The Wolves bring back 4 next year, from this season's top-5, and Thompson looks to defend his title in the 2027 6A State Tournament (Date and Location TBA).

With this victory, Grady joins Max McGreevy (University of Oklahoma National Champion and now on the PGA Tour) as the only Santa Fe golfers in school history to win an Individual State Championship.
